Attica Historical Society

The Attica Area Historical Society is dedicated to preserving the rich history of Attica and surrounding areas, including Venice Township. The Society is currently identifying and welcoming individuals interested in the collection, preservation, and celebration of our community’s history.

If you’d like to be part of the revitalization of the Historical Society, including joining the initial steering committee, please email atticaareahistoricalsociety@gmail.com. Someone will be in touch with you shortly.

Our Purpose

The purpose of the Society is to bring together those interested in the history of Attica, Venice Township, and adjacent areas. Understanding our past enriches our appreciation of community and strengthens our connection to American heritage.

What We Do

The Society’s main functions include discovering, collecting, and preserving materials that help document the area’s history, including:

  • Printed materials such as books, genealogies, directories, newspapers, pamphlets, and posters

  • Manuscripts including letters, diaries, journals, and service records

  • Photographs, portraits, paintings, and other visual records

  • Relics and artifacts reflecting the cultural and everyday life of the past

We also aim to preserve historic buildings, monuments, and markers, and to make collected materials accessible for public education and study.

Sharing Our History

The Society promotes historical awareness by:

  • Publishing articles in local media

  • Hosting events such as lectures, discussions, and reenactments

  • Marking significant historical sites

  • Using digital and traditional media to engage the public
